Black East - Scenes of Decay
The scenes of decay can be found in desolate East German towns and villages some 15 years after the fall of the Wall. With their eyes turned away, people remain in the backdrop of empty dilapidated houses, in front of board walls or closed snack bars.
An atmosphere of warmth and comfort is created at night, when artificial golden light makes an entrance, a window or a path look unexpectedly attractive, while the day is swallowed by darkness.
The photographs were taken during journeys through East German cityscapes during the years 2006 to 2008 and are the third part of the cycle Black East Wild West.
